Injury prevention and control programs should based on a solid foundation of data. Issues related to data collection and analyses in injury studies were discussed in this paper which included: 1)what kind of data should we collect;2)problems of using available data sources with special attention on using mortality data in injury studies; 3)issues on collecting new data were targeting the problem, case definition, selecting relevant variables and good classifications; 4)notes on data analysis were using relative figures properly, differentiate rate and proportion, define numerator and denominator clearly with special emphasize on exposure risk.
