The purpose of this study is to understand the attachment patterns of university students and the recovery and growth after breakup, using extradyadic love or general love as moderator variable. Is there any interaction between attachment and extradyadic love or general love on the recovery results after breakup? In this study, a cross-sectional survey was used, and 469 university students who had breakup experience were recruited from northern, central, southern, eastern, and outlying islands of Taiwan by convenience sampling. The structured questionnaire was used as a research tool, including basic personal information, experience in close relationships scale, and the breakup recovery scale. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, One-way ANOVA and Two-way ANOVA, and the results were showed as follows:
    (1) Different background variables will not affect the recovery results after breakup, including gender, still single or in another relationship now, the time that current relationship contain, the total number of past relationships, have ever experienced extradyadic love or not, the total number of past extradyadic love that had experienced, the way that past extradyadic love happened, the time that past extradyadic love contained, the reason that past extradyadic love happened.
    (2) People who are high security attachment, have the better recovery after breakup , but whether high or low anxiety attachment and avoident attachment do not matter in breakup recovery results.
    (3) Safety attachment and extradyadic love or general love were with interactions on the recovery result after breaking up. In the general love, people who are high safety attachment have better recovery results after breakup. But safety attachment doesn’t matter in the recovery of extradyadic love.
The results of this study found that there is no significant difference in the breakup recovery results of extradyadic lovers or general lovers, but people who are high safety attachment in general love, have the better recovery results after breakup. In the other way, the extradyadic love and anxiety or avoidant attachment were not with interactions on the recovery result after breaking up. Furthermore, the effects of anxious attachment and avoidant attachment on recovery results will not be moderate by extradyadic love or general love.
