Bioethics is a new rising discipline as a response to the rapidly changing biomedical technology. Dr. Van Potter of USA has been regarded as the person who coined the word bioethics. But Dr. Hans Martin Sass of Germany has discovered that Dr. Fritz Jahr of Germany had actually appealed to the world the important of a bio-ethical thinking as early as 1927. This article is an introduction of Dr. Jahr's thought and how he defined bioethics as a respect and love of life. In particular, this article will comment on his thought from Chinese perspectives.
