This research attempts to investigate the theoretical achievements of the “Durkheimian School” during interwar period. Regarding this, Halbwachs, as one important disciple of Durkheim, had started to introduce Max Weber’s works to French academia five years after the latter’s death in 1920. In sociological history, it can be regarded as the first import of Weber’s thoughts in France. In order to understand the very features of this theoretical reception process, I engage in the analysis of Halbwachs’ efforts in this respect. Also, by explicating the absorption of Weberian theory into Halbwachs’ thought, I enter into an indirect theoretical dialogue between Weber’s and Durkheim’s camps. Moreover, this research extends its study of the influence of the Durkheimian theory concerning collective representation and sociology of knowledge on American counterparts, especially the constructive perspective developed by Peter L. Berger. Even though as has been proved, German sociologist Karl Mannheim had inspired the early growth of the field of sociology of knowledge in America, this research endeavors to identify the French-styled influence on this, the majority of which stemming from Halbwachs’ thought. More importantly, in term of his own constructivist theoretical system, Halbwachs had gained much insight from both Bergson’s philosophy and Weber’s perspective.
