Due to global-warming and extreme climatic events, there were many kinds of International environmental conventions all over the world. After financial tsunami in 2008, green energy industry was regarded as one of the most important policies. Many countries have developed related policies to follow this trend. World Health Organization indicated that the medical care industry was the second important user of the energy. As a result, the medical care industry could have great contribution in energy saving. In order to comply with the trend, many medical institutions have implemented various plans and environmental certifications. There has been a growing trend of “Green hospitals”. However, higher education is the most important link of developing human resources and international competitiveness. Therefore, the study is aimed to explore students’ environmental attitudes and understanding of international policies, and certifications.
The questionnaire used in the study came from Dunlap and Van Liere who developed the new environmental paradigm scale in 1978. It was sampling from students of a medical institution in central Taiwan as research subjects. A total of 700 questionnaires were sent, and 487 questionnaires were recovered. Response rate was 69.71%. There were 477 effective responses recovered from the survey, which stood for an effective recovery rate of 97.94%. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, T-test, one-factor analysis of variance, and logistic analysis to examine the correlation between variables.
The study found that general speaking students had great attitude on environment. Women are slightly better than men. The medical professional department scored lower than the other departments. The more environmentally conscious the young students were, the more likely they would choose green health care institutions. Likewise, the more the students were involved in environmental issues, the more they would like to choose green health care institutions. If young students could learn more about International Sustainable Energy industry trends or standard regulations, it would contribute to the picture that they might tend to choose green health care institutions in the future.
