Abstract:	因九二一大地震造成中部地方災情慘重，一向依賴的石岡水壩在此次地震中損壞嚴重，直接影響到中部地區水源的品質。許多建築倒塌，造成受災戶住在帳棚、自行搭建鐵皮屋、或是住在由民間及政府建立的組合屋中。整個大環境下環境條件並不好，水的品質是否可以飲用，是否會滋生病媒、傳染病是否流行及老人的慢性病控制等公共衛生問題皆需專業動員來持續監控。基於這樣的理由，本系組成義工服務團，在中部地區的豐原市、石岡鄉、太平市這些地區協助當地衛生所執行水質監控，病媒監測，受災戶心理輔導之問卷調查及協助衛生所處理繁雜的文書處理等工作。學生義工團在第一學期共七十名學生參加，在上班時間內至太平市、豐原市及霧峰鄉支援當地衛生所。第二學期為配合學生之課餘時間，除了部份學生繼續至豐原市衛生所協助整理資料外，其他同學以成立病媒調查小組、水質檢驗小組及環境監測小組之方式，在週末定期至各處從事相關調查。目前水質檢驗之結果，大體上在太平市、豐原市、霧峰鄉及石岡鄉等處飲用水方面並未受到因水管破裂等原因造成供水品質受污染之情形，但大雨過後，部份地區使用之地下水有濁度稍高的現象，值得有關單位持續監控，並由改善土石流等治本方式著手。而在太平市等地，並未發現病媒蚊及蒼蠅族群有異常滋生之現象，而石岡鄉、豐原市及霧峰鄉則發現有幾處地方有病媒滋生之可能。組合屋之垃圾處理、自來水供應及大體上環境衛生方面，尚無發現大問題，同時空氣中懸浮微浮(PM10)濃度並未因災後重建及裸露土石而有濃度偏高現象。 921 earthquake has resulted in severe damage in Central Taiwan. Many buildings were fallen down. People live in temporary housings. Shi-Gown Dam which supplies purified water to Taichung area was out of work. Affected living quality has become a challenge to public health. Due to this situation, faculty and students in the Department of Public Health has organized an volunteer group to help local officials to monitor the local environmental health conditions in Fong-Yuan, Tai-Pei, Wu-Fong, and Shi-Gown. The volunteer group has helped local officials to conduct water quality survey, vector survey, psychological questionnaires, and paperwork assistance. Results of water quality and vector survey showed that the situation has under control for most areas. However, several places are still potential problematic, especially after heavy rain. Furthermore, re-construction and wind-blown of barren areas resulted from the earthquake did not result in higher concentrations of particles in the atmosphere.
