本研究旨在瞭解僑生在台求學之現況及其對僑生輔導工作之認知和使用情況，以作為各校僑生輔導工作之參考。本研究以台中市大學院校隨機抽取三所知僑生作研究對象，採橫斷面調查法，以結構式問卷收集資料，有效問卷共127份，總回收率為41.0%，經SAS/PC+6.11版套裝軟體進行統計分析。結果顯示:僑生為學費須工讀的有39人(30.7%)；為生活費工讀者高達65人(51.2%)，而工讀所得是第二主要經濟來源。僑生來台求學的原因，以國內學費較低58人(45.7%)佔第一位，其他依序是考上喜歡的科系、想繼續深造、父母的意見及學習獨立等。最關切的問題，前三位是課業內容108人(85.0%)、考試方式94人(74.1%)、健康91人(71.6%)。最近一年遭遇的問題，無法順利回答考試問題、需工讀賺學費及生活費、害怕事情不成功及想念家人之發生頻率均介於「經常」及「偶爾」間。而遭遇問題後的身心症狀以疲勞、緊張最常出現，女性、20歲(含)以下一年即在承受壓力時有更明顯的身心症狀。僑生輔導人員的服務態度，僑生感覺是親切、熱心的有50人(39.4%)，不耐煩、冷漠、傲慢者有77人(60.6%)；當學校設有僑生輔導專責單位者(僑生輔導組)，僑生對其人員較感親切、熱心。僑生對僑輔工作之認知率達80%以上的項目，依序為僑生保險、協辦僑生各項活動、居留證、審核獎助學金、入出境手續及新生入學接待等；學校設有專責單位者僑生使用率高於兼責單位者。有關僑生工讀、課業輔導、個案輔導、僑輔專責單位之建立及輔導組和健康中心之相互配合，本研究均有具體建議，亦是落實僑生輔導工作不可容緩之事務。
The present paper describes an investigation of the academic pursuits of overseas Chinese students’ at colleges in Taiwan and counseling services provided by their schools. The subjects come from 3 colleges in Taichung, and the methods include cross-sectional investigation and structured questionnaires (41.0% response rate) were statistically analyzed by SAS/PC+6.11.Our results show that 30.7% of the students’tuition and 51.2% of their living expenses came from the part-time job income, with their part-time jobs constituting the second most important source of financial support. It was found that the main reason they chose to study in Taiwan was low tuition (45.7%). Other reasons for studying in Taiwan included liking the department, wanting a graduate education, following parents’ suggestions, and wanting to be independent. The issues they were most concerned about were their course content (85.0%), testing methods (74.1%), and health (71.6%). The most frequently mention difficulties they encountered this year included not passing exams, earning money for tuition and living expenses, and being homesick. Physical syndromes were often connected with these difficulties, especially in women, freshmen, and students under 20. They rated their counselors’attitude from being earnest (39.4%) to being impatient, cool or arrogant (60.6%). Overseas Chinese students made up 80% of the counseling work in colleges in Taichung. Our findings suggest that overseas Chinese students urgently need individual part-time job counseling and academic study counseling. A counseling and administration unit for oversea Chinese students should be establish to provide these services and the schools should cooperate with each other in providing them.
