Abstract: We previously reported a rapid method for screening true tyrosinase inhibitors. Here, the identified active component from litchi flower extract was further confirmed using a tyrosinase inhibitory assay and inhibitory effects on melanogenesis of murine melanoma B16-F1 cell to prove its bioactivity. This is the first report regarding the inhibitory effect of abscisic acid on melanogenesis. The crude extraction of litchi flower showed some degree of cell toxicity. This report would also like to remind people who want to use crude extraction of herbs to carefully check their toxicological test reports.
