Both medical service and social work care about people's wellbeing. The medical concern however is physically-oriented while social work is holistically-oriented. Though medicine also regards integral understanding of health as importance, the main attention is focused on physical aspects. Quite often, clinician refers his patient to social work department for further help once the physical illness of patient has been taken care of, because the patient still suffers from social, psychological, economical or spiritual problems. The rapid social change that the world witnessed after the WWII, has resulted in increasing phenomenon of social mal-adjustment as described in "Future Shock". The service of social work becomes a handy way to assist medicine in promoting people's wellbeing in modern age. Medical ethics emphasizes the importance of beneficence, non-maleficence, autonomy and justice, social work in extending hands to help client restore their functional ability in society can apply these same principles plus respect, compassion in its work. The importance of virtues in medical ethics has once again been emphasized in recent years. This virtue ethics calls for deepening physician's caring affinity toward patients. In social work, it is a total commitment, a heartily engagement in what we do while clients' dignity is also respected.
